A 1930’s reinforced-concrete terraced house, of 2 bedrooms, is opened-up and refurbished to provide an urban dwelling for two. Southerly orientation of the rear elevation was used to link the house to a new deck and yard.
Recycled materials were used where opportunity allowed, such as the scaffolding planks for the rear deck, and lacquering of the existing screed to provide a self-finished floor. Bright colours and an industrial ethic reflect its Docklands location.
The yard end elevation is composed in a trellis of rough-sawn timbers.
A workshop to the rear was self-built, so was designed to be constructed by one person with minimal power tools. Walls were pre-fabricated in light sections to be lifted into place against existing boundary walls.
