Advocates for walking and cycling often feel that such campaigns are mis-directed when they forget to remind us that it’s when we are motorists that we present the biggest risk to the vulnerable, and it is when using our cars that we must take extra care in low-light conditions. \u00a0It’s a basic principle of risk management that you look at the source of the risk first!<\/p>\n
Research has shown that, particularly in daytime conditions, hi-viz clothing is less effective than many safety bodies seem to imagine (Tin Tin et al 2014; Koorey 2014).<\/p>\n

Someone has come up with these grey-on-matte-black vests with ironic slogans, apparently as a riposte to well-meaning but flawed ‘vulnerable road users should wear hi-visibility clothing’ campaigns.
