A quick ride through the south coast of Cambodia leaves me slightly in awe of this country and its history.

It’s great for my supermarket-oriented eyes to see fresh veg, fish and fruit that you’ve just spotted growing in the countryside -or being caught at sea- displayed for sale. Pic below is market in Koh Kong.

Pic below is typical of the poorer homes I saw in the countryside. Utterly basic structures with no piped services. Many families, like this one, seem to have next to nothing.

Sadly the sign above was the closest I came to seeing an elephant in the Cardamom Mountains.

Below- one of the very many roadside shacks I refreshed at. The petrol station part comprises the plastic bottles of fuel at the front!

Of course my 3 days on Koh Rong Sanloen Island off Sihanoukville was a dream come true. Having some of the jungle fauna wander into my room was great too.

The Amok fish curry was delicious (below). Coconutty sweet and mildly flavoured!
